How to identify speed issues.

If you suspect your internet connection isn’t performing optimally, you have a few options for checking network speed.

  1. Check our status page to see if there’s an outage or any reported local issues affecting your speeds.
  2. Conduct a hardwired speed test.
  • Connect a device such as a laptop, PC, or tablet directly into your gateway with an ethernet cable.
  • Put your device on airplane mode, open a browser and visit speedtest.net.
  • Click “GO” to start the speed test. A hardwired speed test result like this will let you know the speeds currently being supplied to your home.
  1. Try an app direct speed test.
    • Open the Plume Home WiFi app on your smartphone and tap “Check Speed” button on the home page.
    • These results will show what speeds your gateway is receiving.

Results from either test should show speeds at or very close to your current speed plan. Keep in mind that speed test results on a device over WiFi can be affected by a number of factors such as device placement or interference from other devices and neighboring networks.
